Our purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Young persons involved in Venturing learn to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by supporting the values in the Venturing Oath and Code, acquire skills in the area of high adventure or outdoor skills and learn leadership through first hand experiences. Saint Rose of Lima Parish Murfreesboro, Tennessee has chartered Venture Crew 538 since November 30, 1992 when it was originally called Explorer Post 538. Venturing has always been considered an integral part of the Youth Ministry Program of Saint Rose and the membership has never been limited to parishioners only. As the Charter Partner, Saint Rose has paid the annual charter fees, provided a safe meeting place and provided responsible leadership for the past twelve years. The first Advisor in 1992 was Lawrence Perrault. He continued at this position until 1994. The first Charter Partner Representative, who continues at this position to the present day, was Robert Carney. The first Post had twenty-four members and thirteen adult leaders. In 1995 Cheryl Lorden took over as Advisor until 1996. Janet Brown succeeded her ITom 1997 until 1998. From 1999 until the present, 2004, Dr. Bill Smith has volunteered to serve as advisor. The cun-ent membership strands at thirty-five with twelve registered adult leaders. The leadership roles currently elected by the membership include President, Lyndsay Smith, Vice Presidents Megan Daniels and Brooke Rowley and Secretary Sara Boyanton. Activities provided to the membership over the past year include, camping, ice skating, shot gun shooting, rock climbing, repelling, canoeing, white water rafting, bowling, snow skiing, swimming and horseback riding. Crew members have also supported their Charter Partner, Saint Rose, over the years by volunteering to help with the Christmas Gift Tree, Parish Picnic, Seder Supper and much more. Over its twelve-year history, one hundred and sixty four youth and forty-three adults have participated in this worthwhile program. Venture Crew 538 of Saint Rose looks forward to a long future of providing both the parish and Murfreesboro with a teen youth program of outdoor adventure, fellowship and leadership training through the Boy Scouts of America.
