Ladies Guild

The primary objective of the organization known as the Ladies Guild of St Rose of Lima Catholic Church is to unite women of the parish in the service and care of the Altar as well as other charitable endeavors in the parish. Our guild is affiliated with the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW). Volunteers in a group of three persons, or four or five meet once a week for only one month to perform the following duties. They change linens as needed, replace candles and perform light dusting where it is needed on the Altar and the Chapel. The main areas are the Altar and Sanctuary light, the Chapel and the Gathering Area, as well as the votive candles. In conjunction with the Heart of Mary Guild we alternate every three months of the calendar year in taking care of the Altar and Chapel.

Our guild has "adopted" one of the seminarians for Tennessee, per Bishop Choby's request. Cards, notes of encouragement, as well as monetary contributions form our guild account are sent to show support of our seminarian. Other members of our guild are involved in several ministries which contribute to the health and welfare of our Parish life. Although not in our by-laws, many of our members volunteer in supporting parish charitable works such as bereavement meals, Church Women United, Room in the Inn, as well as the Seder Supper.

Ladies Guild meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month, September through May. We meet at 11:30 in the Jo Call Room for lunch, a program and a business meeting. For many of our meetings we have programs such as a performance by our own St Rose students, an artist or historian, a medical format program, or a special spiritual theme. There is time to socialize and get to know one another during lunch. Five or our meetings are "brown bag" lunches; three are covered dish lunches and the last meeting is a catered lunch when we end the year with the installation of new officers. Our dues for the year are $10.00 and women are encouraged to join even if they feel they cannot attend all the meetings.

Our money for both Altar needs as well as other ministries in the parish are funded by our annual Bazaar held in November. This is held usually the weekend before Thanksgiving in the St Rose gym. Parishioners as well as guild members donate baked goods as well as homemade craft and gift items. We hope you consider joining the Ladies Guild to meet others and learn more about the organization.
