Dear Fellow Disciples,

The sermon on the mount begins with the beatitudes. Jesus presents different forms for a disciple to be blessed in relation with God’s Kingdom. These forms illustrate the way the disciple lets himself be guided by the values of the kingdom, not by a specific virtue of the kingdom. 

Blessed are those who have God and His kingdom at the center of their lives. Those who search for God’s will always, everywhere, in everything. Those in whose lives the  will of God is in the center. This way all forms of idolatry and superstitions are out of their lives. The true disciple will never give to the creature the place of the Creator and in his heart there never will be space for selfishness or self centeredness. The practice of mercy will be always his focus. The purity of heart, mind and body, will reject all falsehood and moral promiscuity. 

His comprehension of God’s will make him attentive to the building of a world of peace in answer to the continuous temptation of division. 

The disciple of Jesus is blessed even though he/she will be persecuted for his faithfulness and his position against the common mentality of this age. 

All disciples of God’s kingdom are blessed for it is impossible to embrace the project of the beatitudes and let elements contrary to God and His will subsist in their lives. 

Let’s pray today that God will give us grace and strength, fortitude, and boldness to be counted among the blessed.

Queridos compañeros discípulos,

El sermón de la montaña comienza con las bienaventuranzas. Jesús presenta diferentes formas para que un discípulo sea bendecido en relación con el Reino de Dios. Estas formas ilustran cómo el discípulo se deja guiar por los valores del reino, no por una virtud específica del reino.

Bienaventurados los que tienen a Dios y su reino en el centro de su vida. Los que buscan la voluntad de Dios siempre, en todas partes, en todo. Aquellos en cuyas vidas la voluntad de Dios está en el centro. De esta manera todas las formas de idolatría y superstición quedan fuera de sus vidas. El verdadero discípulo nunca le dará a la criatura el lugar del Creador y en su corazón nunca habrá lugar para el egoísmo o el egocentrismo. La práctica de la misericordia será siempre su enfoque. La pureza de corazón, mente y cuerpo, rechazará toda falsedad y promiscuidad moral.

Su comprensión de la voluntad de Dios lo hace atento a la construcción de un mundo de paz en respuesta a la continua tentación de la división.

El discípulo de Jesús es bienaventurado aunque será perseguido por su fidelidad y su posición frente a la mentalidad común de esta época.

Todos los discípulos del reino de Dios son bienaventurados porque es imposible abrazar el proyecto de las bienaventuranzas y dejar subsistir en sus vidas elementos contrarios a Dios y a su voluntad.

Oremos hoy para que Dios nos dé la gracia y la fuerza, la fortaleza y el valor para ser contados entre los bienaventurados.
