Mary, the Holy Mother of God

Dear fellow disciples, peace, peace, peace!

Since 431 A.D (Council of Ephesus) the Church believes, proclaims, declares and celebrates Mary as the Theotokos, the bearer of God or the Mother of God. In fact in declaring the divinity of Christ, as God, it was just fitting to admit that Mary is, as a consequence of Him, the Mother of God.

The blessing that God gives to Moses to bless the Israelites takes form and flesh in the person of Mary, the kecharitomene, the full of grace and blessed among women. The one chosen from David’s house and descendents to be the bearer of the author of all grace. The one who waited the fullness of time to see the fulfillment of all prophecies about the Messiah. Not knowing that she would play a crucial role in the economy of salvation.

It is also very fitting that the Church makes the world day of peace coincide with this solemnity. Mary, the mother of the author of peace, the queen of peace is also the mediatrix of peace and so needed in our days to teach us to be messengers and promoters of peace (“how beautiful upon the mountains the feet of the one who announces peace” - “blessed are the peacemakers…”).

Mary with her husband Joseph are the presenters of the Christ child to the shepherds and hearing their testimony she, “kept all this things, reflecting on them in her heart”.

“At the end my Immmaculate Heart will triumph” (Fatima 1917). Let us then run to her heart. There, in the school of Mary, the great Theotokos, we’ll learn to be the best disciples of the Divine Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and God.

María, la Santa Madre de Dios

Queridos compañeros discípulos, ¡paz, paz, paz!

Desde el 431 d.C. (Concilio de Éfeso) la Iglesia cree, proclama, declara y celebra a María como Theotokos, la portadora de Dios o la Madre de Dios. De hecho, al declarar la divinidad de Cristo, como Dios, era justo admitir que María es, como consecuencia de Él, la Madre de Dios.

La bendición que Dios da a Moisés para bendecir a los israelitas toma forma y carne en la persona de María, la kecharitomene, la llena de gracia y bendita entre las mujeres. La escogida de la casa de David y de su descendiencia para ser portadora del autor de toda gracia. La que esperó la plenitud de los tiempos para ver el cumplimiento de todas las profecías sobre el Mesías. Sin saber que ella jugaría un papel crucial en la economía de la salvación.

También es muy oportuno que la Iglesia haga coincidir la jornada mundial de la paz con esta solemnidad. María, la madre del autor de la paz, la reina de la paz es también la mediadora de la paz y tan necesaria en nuestros días para que nos enseñe a ser mensajeros y promotores de la paz (“¡qué hermosos sobre los montes los pies del que anuncia la paz ” - “Bienaventurados los pacificadores…”).

María con su esposo José son los presentadores del niño Cristo a los pastores y al escuchar su testimonio ella “guardaba todas estas cosas, meditándolas en su corazón”.

“Al final mi Inmaculado Corazón triunfará” (Fátima 1917). Entonces, corramos a su corazón. Allí, en la escuela de María, la gran Theotokos, aprenderemos a ser los mejores discípulos de su Divino Hijo, Jesucristo, nuestro Señor y Dios. Feliz y bendecido 2023.
