Jesus' ministry was marked by temptations...there were many invitations for Him to move away from the Father's way and plan. His affiliation with the Father was always put to trial and questioned.

The insertion of the "three temptations" at the beginning of His ministry indicate a constant in His life, that is, that he would be tempted to the end of His earthly journey. However the narration of today's Gospel has another important element. Jesus will be faithful to the Father until the end and will not give in to the temptation to deviate from the Father's will.

The conditional formulation of the temptation, "...If you are the Son of God...."was wrong from the beginning. Exactly because Jesus IS the Son of God he would never give in nor fall into the trick of the tempter, because from the Son it is expected total, unconditional fidelity, faithfulness.

Let us pray that The Father, through the Spirit and in the name of Jesus, may give us the strength to resist all kinds of temptations and to stay true and faithful to His Will.

Si eres el Hijo de Dios

Queridos discípulos,

El ministerio de Jesús estuvo marcado por las tentaciones... hubo muchas invitaciones para que Él se apartara del camino y plan del Padre. Su asociación con el Padre siempre fue puesta a prueba y cuestionada.

La introducción de las "tres tentaciones" al comienzo de su ministerio indica una constante en su vida, es decir, que será tentado hasta el final de su camino terrenal. Sin embargo, la narración del Evangelio de hoy tiene otro elemento importante. Jesús será fiel al Padre hasta el final y no cederá a la tentación de desviarse de la voluntad del Padre.

La formulación condicional de la tentación, "...Si eres el Hijo de Dios..."estaba mal desde el principio. Precisamente porque Jesús ES el Hijo de Dios nunca cedería ni caería en la trampa del tentador, porque del Hijo se espera una total, incondicional fidelidad.

Oremos para que el Padre, a través del Espíritu y en el nombre de Jesús, nos dé la fuerza para resistir todo tipo de tentaciones y permanecer fieles a Su Voluntad.
