Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Today's Gospel focuses on a critical question Jesus poses to His disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" (Mk 8, 29). This question invites both reflection and response. Not just for the disciples of Jesus' time but, even more, for the disciples of today.

Peter's answer, "You are the Christ", reveals a profound truth. However, Peter quickly falters when he resists the idea of a suffering Messiah. He knows that, according to tradition, the Messiah would come dressed in glory and power. Jesus reminds him, and us, that following Him means embracing the cross. The path to true life passes through self-sacrifice and bearing our own crosses.

In this Gospel, we are challenged to reflect on who Jesus truly is for us. Is He the Messiah who frees us from sin but also leads us to sacrifice, humility and service? We are reminded that discipleship is not always easy, but it brings us into a deeper communion with Christ.

May the Holy Spirit help us with the grace to respond to Jesus' question with faith and to follow Him courageously, carrying our own crosses as He did for us.

Queridos discípulos, paz.

El Evangelio de hoy se centra en una pregunta crítica que Jesús plantea a sus discípulos: "¿Quién decís que soy yo?" (Mc 8, 29). Esta pregunta invita tanto a la reflexión como a la respuesta. No sólo para los discípulos de la época de Jesús, sino, más aún, para los discípulos de hoy.

La respuesta de Pedro, "Tú eres el Cristo", revela una verdad profunda. Sin embargo, Pedro vacila rápidamente cuando se resiste a la idea de un Mesías sufriente. Sabe que, según la tradición, el Mesías vendría revestido de gloria y poder. Jesús le recuerda a él, y a nosotros, que seguirlo significa abrazar la cruz. El camino hacia la vida verdadera pasa por el autosacrificio y por llevar nuestras propias cruces.

En este Evangelio, se nos desafía a reflexionar sobre quién es realmente Jesús para nosotros. ¿Es Él el Mesías que nos libera del pecado pero también nos lleva al sacrificio, la humildad y el servicio? Recordamos que el discipulado no siempre es fácil, pero nos lleva a una comunión más profunda con Cristo.

Que el Espíritu Santo nos ayude con la gracia de responder a la pregunta de Jesús con fe y de seguirlo con valentía, cargando con nuestras propias cruces como Él lo hizo con nosotros.
