Giving Ourselves to God

Dear Fellow disciples, peace.

In today’s readings, we see two women of great faith and generosity—the widow of Zarephath in the first reading and the widow in the Gospel. Both are poor and vulnerable, yet they each offer all they have, trusting that God will provide.

The widow of Zarephath gives her last bit of flour and oil to Elijah, trusting in his promise that God will sustain her. Similarly, in the Gospel, the poor widow quietly drops her two small coins into the temple treasury—offering everything she has. While her gift seems small, Jesus praises her for giving “all she had to live on.” These examples show us that God values not the amount we give, but the love and trust behind our gifts. Real generosity is not measured by wealth, but by the willingness to give from our hearts, even when it costs us something.

To give our all with love is the attitude of the disciples who trusts in God’s Divine Providence. Today, let’s reflect on our own faith and generosity. Are we willing to give to God and others, even when it requires a sacrifice? Let us trust that, like the widows, when we give with a sincere heart, God will always provide.

May the Holy Spirit help us to find joy and freedom in giving ourselves fully to God.

En las lecturas de hoy vemos a dos mujeres de gran fe y generosidad: la viuda de Sarepta en la primera lectura y la viuda en el Evangelio. Ambos son pobres y vulnerables, pero cada uno ofrece todo lo que tiene, confiando en que Dios proveerá.

La viuda de Sarepta le da su último poco de harina y aceite a Elías, confiando en su promesa de que Dios la sustentará. De manera similar, en el Evangelio, La pobre viuda deja caer en silencio sus dos monedas en el tesoro del templo, ofreciendo todo lo que tiene. Si bien su don parece pequeño, Jesús la elogia por dar “todo lo que tenía para vivir”.

Estos ejemplos nos muestran que Dios valora no la cantidad que damos, sino el amor y la confianza detrás de nuestros regalos. La verdadera generosidad no se mide por la riqueza, sino por la voluntad de dar de corazón, incluso cuando nos cueste algo.

Darlo todo con amor es la actitud del discípulo que confía en la Divina Providencia de Dios. Hoy reflexionemos sobre nuestra propia fe y generosidad. ¿Estamos dispuestos a dar a Dios y a los demás, incluso cuando ello requiera un sacrificio? Confiemos en que, como las viudas, cuando damos con un corazón sincero, Dios siempre proveerá.

Que el Espíritu Santo nos ayude a encontrar la alegría y la libertad al entregarnos plenamente a Dios.
