Rejoice! | ¡ALEGRARSE!

The Third Sunday of Advent is known as Gaudete Sunday, a day of joy and rejoicing. The word Gaudete means “rejoice,” and this theme is echoed in the readings.
In the first reading, the prophet Zephaniah says, “Shout for joy, O daughter Zion! Sing joyfully, O Israel!” (Zeph 3:14). This joy comes from the assurance that God is in our midst, a mighty Savior who renews us in His love.
St. Paul, in the second reading, invites us to “Rejoice in the Lord always” (Phil 4:4). This joy is not superficial or dependent on circumstances. It is rooted in the presence of Christ and the peace He brings into our hearts when we trust in Him.
Finally, in the Gospel, John the Baptist points us to the path of preparation for the Lord’s coming. He tells the crowds, “Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none” (Luke 3:11). True joy comes when we live generously and selflessly, reflecting God’s love to others.
As we light the rose candle on the Advent wreath, we are reminded that the Lord is near. Let us rejoice, not just in His coming at Christmas, but also in His daily presence in our lives. May our hearts be open to His love, and may that love overflow in acts of kindness and compassion to those around us.
May the Holy Spirit fill us with the joy of Christ's coming, in the flesh and in glory and majesty. Let us ask Him the grace to embrace this Advent joy, rooted in the promise that God is with us, and He is coming to make all things new. Amen.

Queridos compañeros discípulos, paz. El Tercer Domingo de Adviento se conoce como Domingo Gaudete, un día de alegría y regocijo. La palabra Gaudete significa "alegrarse" y este tema se repite en las lecturas. En la primera lectura, el profeta Sofonías dice: “¡Canta, hija de Sión, da gritos de júbilo, Israel, (Sof 3:14). Este gozo proviene de la seguridad de que Dios está entre nosotros, un Salvador poderoso que nos renueva en su amor.
San Pablo, en la segunda lectura, nos invita a “Alégrense siempre en el Señor ” (Flp 4,4). Esta alegría no es superficial ni depende de las circunstancias. Tiene sus raíces en la presencia de Cristo y la paz que Él trae a nuestros corazones cuando confiamos en Él.
Finalmente, en el Evangelio, Juan Bautista nos señala el camino de preparación a la venida del Señor. Él le dice a la multitud: “Quien tenga dos túnicas, que dé una al que no tiene ninguna.” (Lucas 3:11). La verdadera alegría llega cuando vivimos con generosidad y desinterés, reflejando el amor de Dios hacia los demás.
Al encender la vela rosa de la corona de Adviento, recordamos que el Señor está cerca. Regocijémonos, no sólo por Su venida en Navidad, sino también por Su presencia diaria en nuestras vidas. Que nuestros corazones estén abiertos a Su amor y que ese amor se desborde en actos de bondad y compasión hacia quienes nos rodean.
Que el Espíritu Santo nos llene del gozo de la venida de Cristo, en carne y en gloria y majestad. Pidámosle la gracia de abrazar este gozo del Adviento, arraigado en la promesa de que Dios está con nosotros y viene para hacer nuevas todas las cosas. Amén.
