Christ Jesus Is at Hand! Let’s Go Out to Meet Him!

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Today’s Gospel (Luke 1:39–45) takes us into the beautiful encounter between Mary and Elizabeth. Mary, newly aware of her unique role as the Mother of God, hastens to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who is also miraculously expecting a child. This meeting is not just a family reunion but a moment filled with the Holy Spirit, joy, and faith.

Elizabeth, moved by the Spirit, exclaims, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!” She recognizes that Mary carries Jesus, the Savior. Elizabeth also praises Mary for her faith: “Blessed is she who believed that what was spoken to her by the Lord would be fulfilled.”

This passage reminds us of three essential Advent virtues: joy, humility, and faith.

• Joy: Elizabeth and John, even in the womb, rejoice in Christ’s presence. As Christmas draws near, we are called to rediscover this joy that comes from knowing Jesus is with us.

• Humility: Mary, though chosen to bear the Son of God, humbly serves Elizabeth. Her journey teaches us to serve others with love, especially during this season of giving.

• Faith: Mary’s trust in God’s promises invites us to deepen our own faith. Do we truly believe that God is working in our lives, even when His plans seem mysterious?

As we prepare for Christmas, let us imitate Mary and Elizabeth—rejoicing in God’s blessings, serving others with love, and trusting fully in God’s promises. Like them, may we be open to the Holy Spirit, so Christ may be born anew in our hearts and homes.

May the Holy Spirit help us to say “Come, Lord Jesus!”

¡Cristo Jesús Está a la Mano! ¡Salgamos a Su Encuentro!

Queridos discípulos, paz.

El evangelio de hoy (Lucas 1:39–45) nos lleva al hermoso encuentro entre María e Isabel. María, recién consciente de su papel único como Madre de Dios, se apresura a visitar a su prima Isabel, quien también está esperando milagrosamente un hijo. Esta reunión no es sólo una reunión familiar sino un momento lleno del Espíritu Santo, gozo y fe.

Isabel, movida por el Espíritu, exclama: “¡Bendita tú entre las mujeres y bendito el fruto de tu vientre!” Ella reconoce que María lleva a Jesús, el Salvador. Isabel también alaba a María por su fe: “Bienaventurada la que creyó que se cumpliría lo que le había dicho el Señor”.

Este pasaje nos recuerda tres virtudes esenciales del Adviento: alegría, humildad y fe.

• Alegría: Isabel y Juan, incluso en el vientre, se regocijan en la presencia de Cristo. A medida que se acerca la Navidad, estamos llamados a redescubrir esta alegría que proviene de saber que Jesús está con nosotros.

• Humildad: María, aunque elegida para dar a luz al Hijo de Dios, sirve humildemente a Isabel. Su viaje nos enseña a servir a los demás con amor, especialmente durante esta temporada de generosidad.

• Fe: La confianza de María en las promesas de Dios nos invita a profundizar nuestra propia fe. ¿Creemos realmente que Dios está obrando en nuestras vidas, incluso cuando sus planes parecen misteriosos?

Mientras nos preparamos para la Navidad, imitemos a María e Isabel: regocijándonos en las bendiciones de Dios, sirviendo a los demás con amor y confiando plenamente en las promesas de Dios. Que como ellos, estemos abiertos al Espíritu Santo, para que Cristo nazca de nuevo en nuestros corazones y hogares.

Que el Espíritu Santo nos ayude a decir “¡Ven, Señor Jesús!”
