The Good Shepherd

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Today, on this Fourth Sunday of Easter, we hear one of the most comforting images in all of Scripture—Jesus, the Good Shepherd. He says: “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

In a world filled with noise, confusion, and countless voices calling for our attention, Jesus reminds us that we belong to Him. He knows us personally, and when we listen, we can recognize His voice—one that speaks peace, truth, and love.

This Gospel reassures us that no one can take us out of Jesus’ hand. That’s a promise of eternal security—not in material things, but in a relationship with Christ. It challenges us, though, to ask: Are we really listening for His voice each day? Or are we allowing the distractions of life to drown it out?

The disciple learns to discern God's voice among all the distractions of the world. Distinguishing and listening to Him, he is challenged to follow Him. Discipleship is our answer to the call to follow Jesus, to develop a relationship with Him.

Today, let us renew our commitment to follow Jesus, the Good Shepherd, with trust and fidelity. Let us also pray for our shepherds in the Church—especially our priests and our new Pope, whoever he may be—that they may lead with Christ’s heart, laying down their lives for the flock.

May the Holy Spirit teach us to distinguish God's voice from the other voices of this world.

Queridos Discípulos, paz.

Hoy, en este cuarto domingo de Pascua, escuchamos una de las imágenes más reconfortantes de toda la Escritura: Jesús, el Buen Pastor. Él dice: “Mis ovejas oyen mi voz; yo las conozco y me siguen.”

En un mundo lleno de ruido, confusión e innumerables voces que reclaman nuestra atención, Jesús nos recuerda que le pertenecemos. Él nos conoce personalmente y, cuando escuchamos, podemos reconocer su voz: una que habla de paz, verdad y amor.

Este Evangelio nos asegura que nadie puede arrebatarnos de la mano de Jesús. Es una promesa de seguridad eterna, no en lo material, sino en una relación con Cristo. Sin embargo, nos desafía a preguntarnos: ¿Realmente escuchamos su voz cada día? ¿O permitimos que las distracciones de la vida la ahoguen?

El discípulo aprende a discernir la voz de Dios entre las distracciones del mundo. Al distinguirlo y escucharlo, se siente desafiado a seguirlo. El discipulado es nuestra respuesta al llamado a seguir a Jesús y a cultivar una relación con él.

Hoy, renovemos nuestro compromiso de seguir a Jesús, el Buen Pastor, con confianza y fidelidad. Oremos también por nuestros pastores en la Iglesia—especialmente por nuestros sacerdotes y nuestro nuevo Papa, quienquiera que sea—para que guíen con el corazón de Cristo, entregando su vida por el rebaño.

Que el Espíritu Santo nos enseñe a distinguir la voz de Dios de las demás voces de este mundo.
