Discipleship for All: Trusting in Providence

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus sends out seventy-two disciples ahead of Him, two by two, into every town and place He intended to visit. This mission is not reserved to the Twelve—it is an invitation to a broader group of believers, a clear sign that discipleship is not for a few, but for all. Jesus doesn’t send them with wealth, weapons, or great prestige. He sends them with trust, with the Gospel, and with peace. “Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals…”

Why? Because the true disciple is one who relies not on worldly resources, but on divine providence. He also says, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.” This remains true today. Our world still needs healing, hope, and truth. Jesus is still calling disciples— you and me—to go into the world with courage and compassion, as laborers of the Kingdom. But discipleship requires sacrifice, humility, and faith.

It means stepping out of our comfort zones and witnessing to Christ in our homes, workplaces, and neighbor hoods. It means being “lambs among wolves,” living the Gospel even when it is not convenient or popular. And yet, Jesus gives us a promise: that our names are written in heaven. That is the reward of faithful discipleship—not earthly applause, but eternal joy. So, let us assess ourselves today and ask "Am I ready to be sent by Jesus? Am I living as a true disciple in my daily life?"

May the Holy Spirit helps us to respond with generous hearts, inspired by Christ, and to walk as joyful witnesses of His peace.

Discipulado para todos: Confiar en la Providencia

Queridos Discípulos, paz.

En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús envía a setenta y dos discípulos delante de Él, de dos en dos, a cada pueblo y lugar que pensaba visitar. Esta misión no está reservada a los Doce: es una invitación a un grupo más amplio de creyentes, una clara señal de que el discipulado no es para unos pocos, sino para todos. Jesús no los envía con riquezas, armas o gran prestigio. Los envía con confianza, con el Evangelio y con paz. «No llevéis bolsa de dinero, ni saco, ni sandalias...».

¿Por qué? Porque el verdadero discípulo es aquel que no confía en los recursos mundanos, sino en la providencia divina. También dice: «La mies es abundante, pero los obreros son pocos». Esto sigue siendo cierto hoy. Nuestro mundo sigue necesitando sanación, esperanza y verdad. Jesús sigue llamando a sus discípulos -a ti y a mí- a ir por el mundo con valentía y compasión, como obreros del Reino. Pero el discipulado requiere sacrificio, humildad y fe.

Significa salir de nuestras zonas de confort y dar testimonio de Cristo en nuestros hogares, lugares de trabajo y vecindarios. Significa ser «corderos entre lobos», vivir el Evangelio incluso cuando no es conveniente o popular. Y, sin embargo, Jesús nos da una promesa: que nuestros nombres están escritos en el cielo. Esa es la recompensa del discipulado fiel: no el aplauso terrenal, sino la alegría eterna. Así pues, evaluémonos hoy y preguntémonos: "¿Estoy preparado para ser enviado por Jesús? ¿Estoy viviendo como un verdadero discípulo en mi vida diaria?".

Que el Espíritu Santo nos ayude a responder con corazones generosos, inspirados por Cristo, y a caminar como testigos gozosos de su paz.
