Ignite the Flame Within: Living the Gospel with Courage

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says something surprising: “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were blazing already!” He also speaks about division, not peace. This is not because Jesus enjoys conflict, but because the truth of the Gospel challenges our comfort zones, our sinful habits, and even certain patterns in our families or societies.

The “fire” Jesus speaks of is the fire of the Holy Spirit — a fire that purifies, trans forms, and fills our hearts with the courage to live the Gospel boldly. To follow Christ often means standing for the truth even when it’s unpopular, loving when it’s easier to remain indifferent, forgiving when it’s easier to hold grudges.

Our baptism set that fire within us. But fire needs fuel — prayer, the Word of God, the Sacraments, and works of charity. If we neglect these, the fire grows cold; if we nour ish them, it shines and warms the world around us.

As disciples who experience Jesus in our lives and strive every day for righteousness and holiness we are challenged to live and to act in the power of this fire, the Holy Spirit.

Let us ask the Lord today: Jesus, set my heart ablaze with your love, so that my life may light the way for others to find you. Amen.

Enciende la llama interior: Vive el Evangelio con valentía

Queridos Discípulos, paz. En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús dice algo sorprendente: “He venido a traer fuego a la tierra, ¡y cuánto desearía que ya estuviera ardiendo!” También habla de división, no de paz. Esto no se debe a que Jesús disfrute del conflicto, sino a que la verdad del Evangelio desafía nuestras zonas de confort, nuestros hábitos pecaminosos e incluso ciertos patrones en nuestras familias o sociedades.

El "fuego" del que habla Jesús es el fuego del Espíritu Santo: un fuego que purifica, transforma y llena nuestros corazones con la valentía de vivir el Evangelio con valentía. Seguir a Cristo a menudo significa defender la verdad incluso cuando es impopular, amar cuando es más fácil permanecer indiferente, perdonar cuando es más fácil guardar rencor.

Nuestro bautismo encendió ese fuego en nosotros. Pero el fuego necesita combustible: la oración, la Palabra de Dios, los sacramentos y las obras de caridad. Si los descuidamos, el fuego se apaga; si los alimentamos, brilla y calienta el mundo que nos rodea.

Como discípulos que experimentamos a Jesús en nuestras vidas y nos esforzamos cada día por la justicia y la santidad, estamos desafiados a vivir y actuar en el poder de este fuego, el Espíritu Santo.

Pidámosle hoy al Señor: Jesús, enciende mi corazón con tu amor, para que mi vida ilumine el camino para que otros te encuentren. Amén.
