Holding Each Other Up in Prayer

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

In today's Gospel, Jesus gives us the parable of the persistent widow to teach us about the power and necessity of prayer. The widow's perseverance before the unjust judge mirrors our call to pray with faith and constancy - not because God is reluctant to help, but because prayer keeps our hearts open to His will and strengthens our trust in His providence.

In the first reading, Moses' raised his hands during the battle to remind us that prayer sustains the mission of God's people. When his arms grew weary, others supported him - a beautiful image of the Church at prayer: we do not pray alone; we hold one another up before God.

St. Paul, in the second reading, urges Timothy to remain faithful to the Word of God and to proclaim it with patience. Faithfulness and prayer go hand in hand - one nourishes the other.

In our busy world, it's easy to lose heart when prayers seem unanswered. But Jesus ends the parable with a question that pierces our hearts: "When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?" Persistent prayer is the sign of a living faith - a faith that trusts God's timing, believes in His goodness, and keeps hope alive even in darkness.

So today, let us renew our commitment to prayer - personal, communal, and inter- cessory. Let us hold up one another like Aaron and Hur held up Moses. May we never lose heart, for the God who hears our cries is faithful and just. May the Holy Spirit strengthen our prayer, and lead us to become better disciples every day and better missionaries in this world.

Apoyándonos mutuamente en la oración

Queridos Discipulos, paz.

En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús nos presenta la parábola de la viuda perseverante para ensenarnos sobre el poder y la necesidad de la oración. La perseverancia de la viuda ante el juez injusto refleja nuestro llamado a orar con fe y constancia - no porque Dios sea reacio a ayudarnos, sino porque la oración mantiene nuestros corazones abiertos a su voluntad y fortalece nuestra confianza en su providencia.

En la primera lectura, Moisés levanto sus manos durante la batalla para recordarnos que la oración sostiene la misión del pueblo de Dios. Cuando sus brazos se cansaban, otros lo apoyaban - una hermosa imagen de la Iglesia en oracion: no oramos solos; nos sostenemos mutuamente ante Dios.

San Pablo, en la segunda lectura, exhorta a Timoteo a permanecer fiel a la Palabra de Dios y a proclamarla con paciencia. La fidelidad y la oracion van de la mano - una alimenta a la otra.

En nuestro mundo tan ocupado, es fácil desanimarse cuando las oraciones parecen no ser escuchadas. Pero Jesus concluye la parabola con una pregunta que toca lo más profundo de nuestro corazón: "Cuando venga el Hijo del Hombre, ¿encontrará fe en la tierra?" La oración perseverante es el signo de una fe viva - una fe que confía en el tiempo de Dios, cree en su bondad y mantiene viva la esperanza incluso en la oscuridad.

Así que hoy, renovemos nuestro compromiso con la oración - personal, comunitaria e intercesora. Sostengamonos unos a otros como Aaron y Jur sostuvieron a Moisés. Que nunca nos desanimemos, porque el Dios que escucha nuestro clamor es fiel y justo.

Que el Espíritu Santo fortalezca nuestra oración y nos guíe a ser cada día mejores discípulos y mejores misioneros en este mundo.
