The Dedication of the Lateran Basilica

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica—the cathedral of the Bishop of Rome, our Holy Father, and the mother church of all churches in the world. This feast reminds us that the Church is not merely a building of stone but a living temple made up of each one of us, built on Christ, the one true foundation.

In the Gospel, Jesus cleanses the temple, driving out what defiles it. His zeal for His Father’s house reveals that worship must be pure, free of anything that distracts us from God’s presence. But Jesus also points to a deeper reality—“Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up”—speaking of His own body. In Him, the presence of God dwells fully.

Saint Paul reminds us that we are the temple of God, and that the Spirit dwells in us. Every act of love, forgiveness, and faithfulness builds up that temple; every sin or division tears it down.

As we celebrate this feast, we are called to renew our reverence for the Church— both the sacred buildings where we worship and the living Church we form together. Let us allow Christ to purify our hearts so that, like the waters flowing from the temple in Ezekiel’s vision, our lives may bring healing, peace, and new life to the world.

May the Holy Spirit inspire us to be reverent towards both our sacred building and our body, which are temples of God even though in different ways. May He make our hearts your dwelling place pleasing to God l. Cleanse us of all that keeps us from His presence, and help us build His Church here at Saint Rose of Lima Church and School in holiness, unity, and love.

El Conmemoración de Todos los Fieles Difuntos

Queridos Discipulos, paz.

Hoy celebramos la Fiesta de la Dedicación de la Basílica de Letrán, catedral del Obispo de Roma, nuestro Santo Padre, e iglesia madre de todas las iglesias del mundo. Esta fiesta nos recuerda que la Iglesia no es solo un edificio de piedra, sino un templo vivo formado por cada uno de nosotros, edificado sobre Cristo, el único y verdadero fundamento.

En el Evangelio, Jesús purifica el templo, expulsando todo lo que lo profana. Su celo por la casa de su Padre revela que la adoración debe ser pura, libre de todo aquello que nos distraiga de la presencia de Dios. Pero Jesús también señala una realidad más profunda: "Destruyan este templo, y en tres días lo levantaré", refiriéndose a su propio cuerpo. En él, la presencia de Dios mora plenamente.

San Pablo nos recuerda que somos templo de Dios y que el Espíritu Santo habita en nosotros. Todo acto de amor, perdón y fidelidad edifica ese templo; todo pecado o división lo destruye.

Al celebrar esta fiesta, estamos llamados a renovar nuestra reverencia por la Iglesia: tanto por los templos sagrados donde adoramos como por la Iglesia viva que formamos juntos. Permitamos que Cristo purifique nuestros corazones para que, como las aguas que fluyen del templo en la visión de Ezequiel, nuestras vidas traigan sanación, paz y nueva vida al mundo.

Que el Espíritu Santo nos inspire a ser reverentes tanto con nuestro edificio sagrado como con nuestro cuerpo, que son templos de Dios, aunque de maneras diferentes. Que Él haga de nuestros corazones su morada grata a Dios. Límpianos de todo lo que nos aleja de su presencia y ayúdanos a edificar su Iglesia aquí, en la Iglesia y Escuela Santa Rosa de Lima, en santidad, unidad y amor.
