Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Today is Gaudete Sunday, the Sunday of joy. The rose candle reminds us that the Lord is near, and that true discipleship is marked by a joy the world cannot give.

In today's Gospel, John the Baptist, now imprisoned, sends his disciples to Jesus asking, "Are you the one who is to come?". Jesus responds not with theories but with signs: "The blind see, the lame walk, the poor hear the Good News." The works of mercy reveal the presence of the Messiah.

Discipleship, then, is not simply believing that Christ will come at Christmas-it is recognizing His presence already at work in us and through us. Advent joy is born when we see God acting in our lives. Isaiah's prophecy in the first reading fills us with hope: the desert will bloom, the feeble will grow strong, and the sorrowful will rejoice. Advent reminds us that God is transforming the dry places of our hearts even now.

How do we live this joyful discipleship?

1. By trusting God's work in our lives. Even when we experience doubt, like John, we turn to Christ and allow His works to strengthen our faith.
2. By practicing the works of mercy. The joy of Advent is not sentimental-it is concrete. When we lift someone's burden, encourage the weary, or help the poor, Christ becomes present through us.
3. By cultivating patient hope. St. James urges us to be patient like a farmer awaiting the harvest. Some graces take time to bloom, but God is faithful.

As we approach Christmas, we prepare not only by looking forward to Christ's birth in Bethlehem, but by recognizing His presence in the ordinary moments of our discipleship-moments of kindness, prayer, generosity, and reconciliation. May the Holy Spirit, on this Gaudete Sunday, renew our joy in following Christ, so that when He comes at Christmas and at the end of time, He finds our hearts open, hopeful, and rejoicing.

Domingo de Gaudete

Queridos Discipulos, paz. Hoy es Domingo de Gaudete, el Domingo de la Alegría. La vela rosa nos recuerda que el Señor esta cerca y que el verdadero discipulado se caracteriza por una alegría que el mundo no puede dar.

En el Evangelio de hoy, Juan el Bautista, ya encarcelado, envía a sus discípulos a Jesús y le pregunta: "¿Eres tú el que ha de venir?". Jesús responde no con teorías, sino con senales: "Los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los pobres oyen la Buena Nueva". Las obras de misericordia revelan la presencia del Mesías.

El discipulado, entonces, no es simplemente creer que Cristo vendrá en Navidad, sino reconocer su presencia ya obrando en nosotros y a traves de nosotros. La alegría del Adviento nace cuando vemos a Dios actuar en nuestras vidas. La profecía de Isaías en la primera lectura nos llena de esperanza: el desierto florecera, los debiles se fortaleceran y los afligidos se alegraran. El Adviento nos recuerda que Dios está transformando la sequedad de nuestros corazones incluso ahora.

¿Cómo vivimos este discipulado gozoso?

1. Confiando en la obra de Dios en nuestras vidas. Incluso cuando experimentamos dudas, como Juan, nos volvemos a Cristo y permitimos que Sus obras fortalezcan nuestra fe.
2. Practicando las obras de misericordia. La alegría del Adviento no es sentimental, sino concreta. Cuando aliviamos la carga de alguien, animamos al cansado o ayudamos al pobre, Cristo se hace presente a traves de nosotros.
3. Cultivando la esperanza del paciente. Santiago nos insta a ser pacientes como un labrador que espera la cosecha. Algunas gracias tardan en florecer, pero Dios es fiel.

Al acercarnos a la Navidad, nos preparamos no sólo esperando con ansias el nacimiento de Cristo en Belén, sino reconociendo Su presencia en los momentos ordinarios de nuestro discipulado: momentos de bondad, oración, generosidad y reconciliación. Que el Espíritu Santo, en este Domingo de Gaudete, renueve nuestra alegría en el seguimiento de Cristo, para que cuando venga en Navidad y al final de los tiempos, encuentre nuestros corazones abiertos, esperanzados y alegres.
