The Lamb of God

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Today's Gospel shows us the beginning of discipleship. John the Baptist points to Jesus and says, "Behold, the Lamb of God." He does not draw attention to himself; he directs others to Christ. True discipleship always begins there: recognizing Jesus and helping others encounter Him.

When the two disciples follow Jesus, He asks a simple but profound question: "What are you looking for?" This is the question the Lord asks every disciple. Are we looking for comfort, success, or recognition - or are we truly seeking Him? Discipleship is not first about doing things for Jesus, but about staying with Him, as the disciples did that day.

Having encountered Jesus, Andrew cannot keep the experience to himself. He goes to his brother Simon and brings him to the Lord. Every genuine encounter with Christ naturally becomes mission. A disciple is both a follower and a witness.

In this Ordinary Time, the Church reminds us that discipleship is lived in the ordinary moments of life: listening to the Lord, remaining with Him, and leading others to Him. Like John the Baptist, may our lives point clearly to Jesus, the Lamb of God, so that others may follow Him too.

May the Holy Spirit guide us during this new year of discipleship and mission.

El Cordero de Dios

Queridos Discipulos, paz.

El Evangelio de hoy nos muestra el comienzo del discipulado. Juan el Bautista senala a Jesus y dice: "He aquí el Cordero de Dios". No se centra en sí mismo; guía a otros hacia Cristo. El verdadero discipulado siempre comienza ahí: reconociendo a Jesús y ayudando a otros a encontrarlo.

Cuando los dos discípulos siguen a Jesús, él les hace una pregunta sencilla pero profunda: "¿Que buscan?". Esta es la pregunta que el Señor le hace a cada discípulo. ¿Buscamos consuelo, éxito o reconocimiento, o lo buscamos verdaderamente a El? El discipulado no se trata primero de hacer cosas por Jesús, sino de permanecer con Él, como lo hicieron los discípulos aquel día.

Tras su encuentro con Jesús, Andrés no puede guardarse la experiencia para sí. Acude a su hermano Simon y lo lleva al Senor. Todo encuentro genuino con Cristo se convierte naturalmente en misión. Un discípulo es a la vez seguidor y testigo.

En este Tiempo Ordinario, la Iglesia nos recuerda que el discipulado se vive en los momentos cotidianos de la vida: escuchando al Señor, permaneciendo con Él y guiando a otros hacia Él. Como Juan el Bautista, que nuestras vidas apunten claramente a Jesús, el Cordero de Dios, para que otros también puedan seguirlo. Que el Espíritu Santo nos guíe durante este nuevo año de discipulado y misión.
