Today is Gaudete Sunday, the Sunday of joy. The rose candle reminds us that the Lord is near, and that true discipleship is marked by a joy the world cannot give.

In today's Gospel, John the Baptist, now imprisoned, sends his disciples to Jesus asking, "Are you the one who is to come?". Jesus responds not with theories but with signs: "The blind see, the lame walk, the poor hear the Good News." The works of mercy reveal the presence of the Messiah.

Yesterday, we rejoiced with the saints in glory; today, we intercede for those still on the way to the fullness of light. In today's Gospel, Jesus gives us the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector-two men who go up to the Temple to pray. The Pharisee stands proud, listing his good deeds, while the tax collector stands at a distance, humbly asking for mercy. Jesus concludes, "Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

In today's Gospel, Jesus gives us the parable of the persistent widow to teach us about the power and necessity of prayer. The widow's perseverance before the unjust judge mirrors our call to pray with faith and constancy - not because God is reluctant to help, but because prayer keeps our hearts open to His will and strengthens our trust in His providence.

In today’s Gospel, ten lepers cry out to Jesus for mercy, and all are healed. Yet only one—a Samaritan—returns to give thanks. Jesus asks, “Where are the other nine?” Gratitude, we see, is not simply good manners; it is the mark of a true disciple.
