Necessary and Urgent

These are the words, approved by Pope Francis, of Cardinal Sarah, the Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, on the need to return to the Eucharist. I think that many in Saint Rose Parish have this same spiritual intuition since attendance at Mass has been increasing. Whether or not there is a canonical obligation to attend Mass, we need Jesus! He is, of course, found most substantially in the Eucharist.

We are under a dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass, but the dispensation is not without requirements. The dispensation covers those who are sick and those who are caring for the sick. It covers those at highrisk for complications from contracting the virus. It also covers those who are in fear of contracting the virus. It does not cover those who are not in any of these categories but who nevertheless choose not to attend Mass.

In encouraging those who are going about life without fear to attend Mass, I am creating problems but welcome problems of how to accommodate everyone who wants to come to Mass. One of the reasons so many of us are living without fear is that we are taking reasonable precautions against the virus including wearing masks, washing our hands, and practicing social distancing. Social distancing limits the number of people we can have in church at one time so please be considerate about choosing which Mass to attend, especially on the weekends.Here are some points to consider: 

• always sign up for weekend Masses
• the 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Masses on Sunday and the 6:30 p.m. Spanish Mass on Saturday are the least crowded
• weekday Masses are not crowded 
• weekday Masses are offered morning, noon, and night! 
• follow social distancing guidelines

I look forward to the day when we can have a packed church again! I don't know when that will be. In the meantime, we are trying to offer as many Masses at as many times as we can. Please let me know how we can serve you better.

Estas son las palabras, aprobadas por el Papa Francisco, del Cardenal Sarah, Prefecto de la Congregación para el Culto Divino, sobre la necesidad de volver a la Eucaristía. Creo que muchos en la parroquia de Santa Rosa tienen esta misma intuición espiritual ya que la asistencia a la Misa ha ido en aumento. Ya sea que exista o no una obligación canónica de asistir a Misa, ¡necesitamos a Jesús! Y por supuesto, se le encuentra más sustancialmente en la Eucaristía.

Estamos bajo una dispensa de la obligación de asistir a Misa, pero la dispensa no está exenta de requisitos. La dispensa cubre a los enfermos y a los que cuidan de los enfermos. Cubre a las personas con alto riesgo de complicaciones por contraer el virus. También cubre a quienes temen contraer el virus. No cubre a aquellos que no están en ninguna de estas categorías pero que, sin embargo, optan por no asistir a Misa.

Al animar a quienes van por la vida sin miedo a asistir a Misa, estoy creando problemas, pero me dan gusto esos problemas de cómo acomodar a todos los que quieran asistir a Misa. Una de las razones por las que muchos de nosotros vivimos sin miedo es que estamos tomando precauciones razonables contra el virus, como usar máscaras, lavarnos las manos y practicar el distanciamiento social. El distanciamiento social limita la cantidad de personas que podemos tener en la iglesia al mismo tiempo, así que sea considerado al elegir a qué Misa asistir, especialmente los fines de semana. A continuación, se muestran algunos puntos a considerar:

• Inscribirse siempre para las Misas de fin de semana
• Las Misas de 7 a.m. y 5 p.m. del domingo son las menos concurridas y la Misa de las 6:30 en Español los Sábados
• Las Misas entre semana no están llenas de gente
• ¡Las Misas entre semana se ofrecen por la mañana, al mediodía y por la noche!
• Seguir las pautas de distanciamiento social

¡Espero con ansias el día en que podamos tener una iglesia llena nuevamente! No sé cuándo será eso. Mientras tanto, estamos tratando de ofrecer tantas Misas en tantas ocasiones como podamos. Hágame saber cómo podemos servirle mejor.
