The Gospel for the First Sunday of Lent is always about the temptations that Jesus experienced during His 40 days of prayer and fasting in the desert after His baptism. These 40 days are the main scriptural basis for the 40 days of Lent.

It is interesting that the devil kept that first "Lent" with Jesus. In his temptations of Jesus, the devil seems to be trying to figure out just who Jesus is. This might seem like strange advice, but we should imitate the devil in remaining with Jesus in the desert for Lent and in trying to find out who Jesus is. Of course, the devil was doing this for bad reasons. He was foolishly trying to tempt Jesus.

If we stay with Jesus and remain focused on Him this Lent, we will be blessed. Whatever we decide to do for Lent should be focused on accompanying Jesus in prayer and fasting, as well as in learning from Him.

Nothing in an authentic spiritual life is about us. Everything is about Jesus. During Lent, we should fast and pray because Jesus did. We should imitate Him in every way. After 40 days with Jesus in the desert, we will be ready for the resurrection at Easter! How will you keep the 40 days of Lent this year so that you remain with Jesus?

El Evangelio del Primer Domingo de Cuaresma siempre trata sobre las tentaciones que Jesús experimentó durante Sus 40 días de oración y ayuno en el desierto después de Su bautismo. Estos 40 días son la principal base bíblica para los 40 días de Cuaresma.

Es interesante que el diablo guardó esa primera "Cuaresma" con Jesús. En sus tentaciones de Jesús, el diablo parece estar tratando de averiguar quién es Jesús. Esto puede parecer un consejo extraño, pero debemos imitar al diablo permaneciendo con Jesús en el desierto durante la Cuaresma y tratando de averiguar quién es Jesús. Por supuesto, el diablo estaba haciendo esto por malas razones. Estaba tratando tontamente de tentar a Jesús. Si nos quedamos con Jesús y permanecemos enfocados en Él esta Cuaresma, seremos bendecidos. Cualquier cosa que decidamos hacer para la Cuaresma debe estar enfocada en acompañar a Jesús en la oración y el ayuno, así como en aprender de Él.

Nada en una auténtica vida espiritual se trata de nosotros. Todo se trata de Jesús. Durante la Cuaresma, debemos ayunar y orar porque Jesús lo hizo. Debemos imitarlo en todos los sentidos. ¡Después de 40 días con Jesús en el desierto, estaremos listos para la resurrección en Pascua! ¿Cómo guardarás los 40 días de Cuaresma este año para permanecer con Jesús?
