Come, Holy Spirit!

In a time of transition, it is good to remember the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Soon, we will celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit empowered the Apostles to live in peace and confidence as the Mystical Body of Christ present in the world. After the Ascension, they returned to Jerusalem and spent nine days in prayer with the Blessed Virgin Mary. As promised by the Lord, the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost in the form of wind and fire. Then the Apostles went out and preached Jesus Christ in the city where He had been crucified only weeks before. The Holy Spirit empowers us in the same way!

For myself, I am approaching one of the biggest changes in my life with great peace. The peace comes from the Holy Spirit. The decision that I have made to go to St. Bernard Abbey to begin formation as a monk was not my idea. It came to me in prayer and has been confirmed by those exercising spiritual authority in my life, particularly the bishop. He explicitly cited the work of the Holy Spirit. I am therefore at peace.

I have peace about the transitions coming for the parish as well. They, too, have been born in prayer and guided by our bishop, who exercises the same authority as the Apostles. He is their successor! Jesus does not leave His Church on its own. He continually lives in the Church through the Holy Spirit. When we accept the authority of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we also have peace and confidence. Let us spend these days in prayer like the Apostles. Then we will be ready for the Holy Spirit to lead us on!

¡Ven, espíritu santo!

En un tiempo de transición, es bueno recordar el papel del Espíritu Santo en nuestras vidas. Próximamente celebraremos la Solemnidad de Pentecostés cuando el Espíritu Santo empoderó a los Apóstoles para vivir en paz y confianza como Cuerpo Místico de Cristo presente en el mundo. Después de la Ascensión, regresaron a Jerusalén y pasaron nueve días en oración con la Santísima Virgen María. Como prometió el Señor, el Espíritu Santo vino el día de Pentecostés en forma de viento y fuego. Entonces los Apóstoles salieron y predicaron a Jesucristo en la ciudad donde había sido crucificado solo unas semanas antes. ¡El Espíritu Santo nos empodera de la misma manera!

Por mi parte, me acerco a uno de los mayores cambios de mi vida con mucha paz. La paz viene del Espíritu Santo. La decisión que tomé de ir a la Abadía de San Bernardo para comenzar la formación como monje no fue idea mía. Me llegó en oración y ha sido confirmado por quienes ejercen autoridad espiritual en mi vida, particularmente el obispo. Citó explícitamente la obra del Espíritu Santo. Por lo tanto, estoy en paz.

También tengo paz sobre las transiciones que se avecinan para la parroquia. También ellos han nacido en la oración y guiados por nuestro obispo, que ejerce la misma autoridad que los Apóstoles. ¡Él es su sucesor! Jesús no deja a Su Iglesia sola. Vive continuamente en la Iglesia por medio del Espíritu Santo. Cuando aceptamos la autoridad del Espíritu Santo en nuestras vidas, también tenemos paz y confianza. Pasemos estos días en oración como los Apóstoles. ¡Entonces estaremos listos para que el Espíritu Santo nos guíe!
