The First in the Kingdom

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

The question of precedence in the kingdom of God arose among the disciples very early on. The criteria of “first come first served” was the general idea. The first disciples called, naturally took precedence over the others, they thought. The more recently they were called, the more they deserved the last places. But was that God’s criteria? Jesus shows them that the reality is very different. Our Lord has criteria very different from our human way of thinking.

Whoever adheres to the kingdom of God at the last minute of life will have a recompense very similar to those who consecrated their whole life to the Father. It is quite naive and foolish to decide to embrace the kingdom of God at the last minute of life. The good thief did that because he didn’t know Jesus yet. The emperor Constantine did that because he wanted to live the good life and keep sinning. Do not do that! Especially since we do not know when our last minute of life will be.

Let us embrace God’s will and try to live it when He is still is giving us time and enjoy the gift of time wisely. May the Holy Spirit help us.

El Primero en el Reino

Queridos discípulos, paz.

La cuestión de la precedencia en el reino de Dios surgió entre los discípulos desde muy temprano. El criterio de “primero en llegar, primero en ser atendido” era la idea general. Los primeros discípulos llamados, naturalmente, tenían prioridad sobre los demás, pensaron. Cuanto más recientemente fueron convocados, más merecían los últimos lugares. ¿Pero fue ese el criterio de Dios? Jesús les muestra que la realidad es muy diferente. Nuestro Señor tiene criterios muy diferentes a nuestro modo de pensar humano.

Quien se adhiere al reino de Dios en el último minuto de la vida tendrá una recompensa muy similar a la de quienes consagraron toda su vida al Padre. Es bastante ingenuo y tonto decidir abrazar el reino de Dios en el último minuto de la vida. El buen ladrón hizo eso porque aún no conocía a Jesús. El emperador Constantino hizo eso porque quería vivir una buena vida y seguir pecando. ¡No hagas eso! Sobre todo porque no sabemos cuándo será nuestro último minuto de vida.

Abracemos la voluntad de Dios y tratemos de vivirla cuando Él todavía nos está dando tiempo y disfrutemos sabiamente el don del tiempo. Que el Espíritu Santo nos ayude.
