As for you, be humble!

Dear Fellow Disciples peace.

Jesus severely critiques the attitude of the Pharisees. Their hypocrisy and arrogance got on His last nerve because they preached one thing and lived something else. Their lifestyle exposed their inability to accept and practice the scriptures and, much less, God's will. For them the saying was very real and valid, "Do what I say, not what I do" or "They love to talk but do not walk the walk".

This kind of leadership should be banned from the project of discipleship proposed by Jesus. He followed a path totally to the contrary, the path of leading by example. First the doing, then the saying, first the walk, then the talk. "I gave you the example that you may follow". His teaching is proposed first with the testimony of His life. The most eloquent form of teaching!

The wrong behaviors of the Scribes and Pharisees were many. They required a rigorous observance of the Commandments, they wore fancy clothes and religious symbols, and they demanded places of honor and reverence, but they failed to lead by example. The disciple of the Kingdom of God is exhorted to follow Jesus' way, the way of humility and service, "Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart". This way will bring true exaltation, at the Father's house.

In our service to God and to the Church, let us clothe ourselves with humility. In our professions and relationships as well. May Christ shine on us and through us. May the Holy Spirit give us Jesus' humility and sense of service, so that we may lead by example first, and then with words when necessary.

En Cuanto a Ustedes, ¡Séan Humildes!

Queridos discípulos, paz.

Jesús critica severamente la actitud de los Fariseos. Su hipocresía y arrogancia lo irritaron porque predicaban una cosa y vivían otra. Su estilo de vida expuso su incapacidad para aceptar y practicar las Escrituras y, mucho menos, la voluntad de Dios. Para ellos era muy real y válido el dicho: "Haz lo que digo, no lo que hago" o "Les encanta hablar pero no demostrar".

Este tipo de liderazgo debería ser excluido del proyecto de discipulado propuesto por Jesús. Siguió un camino totalmente contrario: el de predicar con el ejemplo. Primero el hacer, luego el decir, primero el demostrar, luego el hablar. "Os di el ejemplo que podéis seguir". Su enseñanza se propone primero con el testimonio de su vida. ¡La forma de enseñanza más elocuente!

Los comportamientos incorrectos de los Escribas y Fariseos fueron muchos. Exigían una observancia rigurosa de los Mandamientos, vestían ropas elegantes y símbolos religiosos y exigían lugares de honor y reverencia, pero no predicaban con el ejemplo. Se exhorta al discípulo del Reino de Dios a seguir el camino de Jesús, el camino de la humildad y del servicio: "Aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón". De esta manera traerá la verdadera exaltación, en la casa del Padre.

En nuestro servicio a Dios y a la Iglesia, vistámonos de humildad. En nuestras profesiones y relaciones también. Que Cristo brille sobre nosotros y a través de nosotros.

Que el Espíritu Santo nos dé la humildad y el sentido de servicio de Jesús, para que podamos predicar con el ejemplo primero y luego con la palabra cuando sea necesario.
