The Responsibility of the Servants

Dear Fellow Disciples, HAPPY NEW LITURGICAL YEAR!

The metaphor of the master and the servants marks the spirit of Advent. In fact, this liturgical season focuses on the waiting of the Lord.

On one hand, the Lord has already come historically in the event of the incarnation of the word in Jesus of Nazareth. On the other He comes constantly and makes himself present in the life of each disciple of the Kingdom, calling him to solidarity and brotherly love.

The Christian Community also keeps calling in faith "Come Lord Jesus, Maranatha", and so, places herself in a waiting and preparing mood to welcome the Lord when He will come in glory and majesty.

A constant temptation among us disciples is to uproot the dimension of faith and stay in the superficiality of the colors and lights of Christmas. This will take away the focus of our mission as disciples, "to prepare the way of the Lord". Jesus is at the Father's side and the disciples' only hope and desire is to be with him far from the tribulations of their everyday life. Maybe the physical absence of Jesus and the erroneous understanding of the Resurrection are at the base of the confusion.

The sleepy servants are an example of those inactive in living the faith. They fall asleep while the master is away. Even though someone is in charge they fall into the trap of idleness. This is how the one who claims to be a disciple of Jesus behaves? He is not concerned with their neighbor, forgetting the example of his Master. He risks being found distracted and being considered irresponsible once the Master arrives.

May the Holy Spirit teach us to be responsible in living our faith. Especially a faith translated and incarnated into service, stewardship, and so to prepare for the final coming of Jesus and the eternal banquet.

La Responsabilidad de los Servidores

Queridos discípulos, ¡FELIZ NUEVO AÑO LITÚRGICO!

La metáfora del amo y los siervos marca el espíritu del Adviento. De hecho, este tiempo litúrgico se centra en la espera del Señor.

Por un lado, el Señor ya vino históricamente en el acontecimiento de la encarnación del Verbo en Jesús de Nazaret. Por otro, Él viene constantemente y se hace presente en la vida de cada discípulo del Reino, llamándolo a la solidaridad y al amor fraterno. La Comunidad Cristiana también sigue llamando con fe "Ven Señor Jesús, Maranata", y así, se pone en estado de espera y preparación para recibir al Señor cuando venga en gloria y majestad.

Una tentación constante entre nosotros los discípulos es la de desarraigar la dimensión de la fe y quedarnos en la superficialidad de los colores y luces de la Navidad. Esto quitará el foco de nuestra misión como discípulos, "preparar el camino del Señor".

Jesús está al lado del Padre y la única esperanza y deseo de los discípulos es estar con Él lejos de las tribulaciones de la vida cotidiana. Quizás la ausencia física de Jesús y la comprensión errónea de la Resurrección estén en la base de la confusión.

Los sirvientes somnolientos son un ejemplo de los inactivos en vivir la fe. Se quedan dormidos mientras el maestro no está. Aunque alguien esté a cargo, caen en la trampa de la ociosidad. ¿Así se comporta el que dice ser discípulo de Jesús? No se preocupa por el prójimo, olvidándose del ejemplo de su Maestro. Corre el riesgo de que lo encuentren distraído y lo consideren irresponsable una vez que llegue el Maestro.

Que el Espíritu Santo nos enseñe a ser responsables en vivir nuestra fe. Especialmente una fe traducida y encarnada en servicio, administración, y así preparar la venida final de Jesús y el banquete eterno.
