Between Light & Darkness (Laetare Sunday)

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Nicodemus' visit at night allows Jesus to address a theme not only important to the disciples but to humanity. The predisposition we have to let ourselves be involved with darkness, even though the light is offered to us. Nobody is free from such risk.

Jesus is the Light the Father offers humanity. His witness of love, even to the extreme of his total surrender was enough to touch people's hearts. Was it? Many decided to tread the path of selfishness and favor injustice and evil with no regard for those who suffer.

Nicodemus represents those who, being in the darkness, find themselves in front of the possibility to choose the path of light. The decision will be challenging for them. They will need firm and strong willpower. Grace can help them to pass from darkness into light. Discipleship is the result of this decision. The disciple, having encountered Jesus, will decide for light, for conversion, for holiness and will walk in the way of light and love.

May the Holy Spirit assist us with sufficient grace to decide, convert, and follow in Jesus' footsteps.

Entre la Luz y la Oscuridad (Domingo de Laetare)

Queridos discípulos, paz.

La visita nocturna de Nicodemo le permite a Jesús abordar un tema no sólo importante para los discípulos sino para la humanidad. La predisposición que tenemos a dejarnos involucrar con la oscuridad, aunque se nos ofrezca la luz. Nadie está libre de tal riesgo. Jesús es la Luz que el Padre ofrece a la humanidad. Su testimonio de amor, hasta el extremo de la entrega total, fue suficiente para tocar el corazón de las personas. ¿En realidad lo fue? Muchos decidieron recorrer el camino del egoísmo y favorecer la injusticia y el mal sin tener en cuenta a quienes sufren.

Nicodemo representa a quien, estando en la oscuridad, se encuentra ante la posibilidad de elegir el camino de la luz. La decisión será un desafío para ellos. Necesitarán una fuerza de voluntad firme y fuerte. La gracia puede ayudarlos a pasar de la oscuridad a la luz. El discipulado es el resultado de esta decisión. El discípulo, habiendo encontrado a Jesús, se decidirá por la luz, por la conversión, por la santidad y caminará por el camino de la luz y del amor.

Que el Espíritu Santo nos asista con gracia suficiente para decidirnos, convertirnos y seguir las huellas de Jesús.
