A People who Produce Much Fruit

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Jesus often is confronted with the hardness of heart of many of his listeners. He identifies in their behavior traces of that same hardness of heart present in the history of the people of Israel. They are a people to whom God manifests His love, care, and mercy and yet are incapable of giving back such love, care, and mercy to God and to others.

Jesus' ministry and actions are the extreme attempts of God to sensitize the disciples and all persons and to help them to leave selfishness to embrace selflessness, to start departing from all forms of evil and adopt goodness, to repudiate the sinfulness of the past to pursue the holiness of every day's life. However, history will repeat itself, He will be eliminated, as the prophets of the past were eliminated. His message is too hard for many, his reproaches are too invasive to others, his positioning is too opposed to the religious power which prefers to keep the "status quo" and not move forward.

The disciple of Jesus is challenged to be conscious of the need to produce good fruits of love, care, and mercy, like his Master, and to do it in his daily, human, practical life, not only in theory.

"The world is in great need of witnesses rather than preachers" (St. Paul VI, October 1967)

Let us ask the Holy Spirit this week, to help us with grace and power to produce good fruit, the best fruit.

Un Pueblo que Produce Mucha Fruta

Queridos discípulos, paz.

Jesús a menudo se enfrenta a la dureza de corazón de muchos de sus oyentes. Identifica en sus comportamientos huellas de esa misma dureza de corazón presente en la historia del pueblo de Israel. Son un pueblo a quien Dios manifiesta Su amor, cuidado y misericordia y, sin embargo, son incapaces de devolver ese amor, cuidado y misericordia a Dios y a los demás.

El ministerio y las acciones de Jesús son los intentos extremos de Dios para sensibilizar a los discípulos y a todas las personas y ayudarlos a dejar el egoísmo para abrazar el altruismo, comenzar a apartarse de todas las formas de maldad y adoptar el bien, repudiar la pecaminosidad del pasado para perseguir la santidad de la vida de cada día.

Sin embargo, la historia se repetirá, Él será eliminado, como fueron eliminados los profetas del pasado. Su mensaje es demasiado duro para muchos, sus reproches demasiado invasivos para otros, su posicionamiento es demasiado opuesto al poder religioso que prefiere mantenerse en el "status quo", en el momento; y no avanzar.

El discípulo de Jesús es desafiado a ser consciente de la necesidad de producir buenos frutos de amor, cuidado y misericordia, como su Maestro, y hacerlo en su vida diaria, humana y práctica, no sólo en teoría.

Pidamos al Espíritu Santo esta semana, que nos ayude con su gracia y poder producir buenos frutos, los mejores frutos.
