Called First To Be

Dear Fellow disciples, peace and blessings.

The story Martha and Mary in today's Gospel sheds light on our idea of discipleship. Many people have never heard the D word (Discipleship) and others who heard it sometimes think that it refers only to religious persons and priests. Neither Martha nor Mary were religious sisters or priests. So, the first fallacy to expel is that discipleship is just for those especially chosen.

Martha and Mary were called to follow Jesus right there at their house doing their everyday duties, and living their everyday lives. While Martha was worried about her guests wellbeing, Mary was worried about learning and listening as much as she could.

Jesus doesn't condemn Martha's activism, just reminds her that it is in the wrong place in the list of her priorities. Mary seems to have her priorities' list right and it will not be taken from her.

In our way of discipleship we sometimes feel tempted to do a lot, as much as we can...be aware of activism!!!! It is not about how much we do, prayer, charity, volunteer work but rather with what attitude we do the things we do for God and others. We are called first TO BE; to be with Jesus, to learn from Him, to listen to Him, so that our ministry, work, study, charity, volunteer hours, will be with Him, through Him and in Him!

Let us stay at His feet like Mary so that we can do the things we do like Martha, but in peace and zero anxiety.

Estamos Llamados Primero a Ser

Queridos compañeros discípulos, paz y bendiciones.

La historia de Marta y María en el Evangelio de hoy arroja luz sobre nuestra idea del discipulado. Mucha gente nunca ha escuchado la palabra D (Discipulado) y otros que la escucharon a veces piensan que se refiere solo a personas religiosas y sacerdotes. Ni Marta ni María eran religiosas ni sacerdotes. Entonces, la primera falacia a eliminar es que el discipulado es solo para aquellos especialmente elegidos.

Marta y María fueron llamadas a seguir a Jesús allí mismo en su casa haciendo sus deberes cotidianos y viviendo su vida cotidiana. Mientras Martha estaba preocupada por el bienestar de sus invitados, María estaba preocupada por aprender y escuchar tanto como pudiera.

Jesús no condena el activismo de Marta, solo le recuerda que está en el lugar equivocado en la lista de sus prioridades. María parece tener bien lista su lista de prioridades y nadie se la quitará.

En nuestra forma de discipulado a veces nos sentimos tentados a hacer mucho, todo lo que podamos... ¡¡¡sean conscientes del activismo!!! No se trata de cuánto hacemos, oración, caridad, trabajo voluntario, sino con qué actitud hacemos las cosas que hacemos por Dios y por los demás. Estamos llamados primero a SER; estar con Jesús, aprender de Él, escucharlo, para que nuestro ministerio, trabajo, estudio, caridad, horas de voluntariado, sea con Él, por Él y en Él!

Quedémonos a Sus pies como María para que podamos hacer las cosas que hacemos como Marta, pero en paz y cero ansiedad.
