The Holy Spirit, Our Defender

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace!

The disciples of Jesus are never alone, especially when facing persecution.

Jesus promised the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete. In Greek "paraclete' can mean "counselor" in the context of those persecuted or afflicted by disappointment and who want to give up their call and mission. The Holy Spirit is poured out as a companion and also a strength to move the disciples forward. I'm pretty sure that is the same Holy Spirit who is pushing us as disciples of Jesus, as a parish and school to move forward.

This past weekend of First Communions and the kickoff of the Capital Campaign we could see and feel the Spirit moving through our parish confirming that if our hearts are in the right place, things will work out and the money will come. If we have at the center of this Campaign the glory of God and the good of God's people in our parish and the wider community of Rutherford and Cannon counties, we'll see the results.

There were several parishioners with good ideas, saying that if we involve all the 3,400 families present here we'll not only raise the dollars for phases 1 and 2 but we'll be able to raise money for all four phases. Isn't the Holy Spirit telling us that we can do it? We just need to stay Christ-centered and ministry-centered. Let us involve everyone then, let us get involved! Leaving behind all that does not help us to be One Faith, One Family, One parish, and the place of encounter with the fullness of the truth of Jesus Christ and His Church and, moving forward to become true witnesses of unity and evangelical charity.

There is a place for everyone in the parish and in this Campaign, for every group, ministry, and organization, for every person of goodwill. Our testimony of unity and teamwork will make Saint Rose of Lima a light of Christ for the generations to come, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

As Bishop Mark prays at every Confirmation Mass, let us pray, "Come Holy Spirit, Come! Ven Espiritu Santo Ven!”

El Espíritu Santo, Nuestro Defensor

Queridos Discípulos, ¡paz!

Los discípulos de Jesús nunca están solos, especialmente cuando enfrentan persecución.

Jesús prometió el Espíritu Santo, el Paráclito. En griego, "paracleto" puede significar "consolador" en el contexto de aquellos perseguidos o afligidos por la desilusión y que quieren abandonar su llamado y misión. El Espíritu Santo se derrama como compañero y también como fuerza para sacar adelante a los discípulos. Estoy bastante seguro que es el mismo Espíritu Santo quien nos está empujando como discípulos de Jesús, como parroquia y escuela a seguir adelante.

Este pasado fin de semana de Primeras Comuniones y el inicio de la Campaña Capital pudimos ver y sentir el Espíritu moviéndose a través de nuestra parroquia confirmando que si nuestros corazones están en el lugar correcto, las cosas saldrán bien y el dinero llegará. Si tenemos en el centro de esta Campaña la gloria de Dios y el bien del pueblo de Dios en nuestra parroquia y la comunidad más amplia de los condados de Rutherford y Cannon, veremos los resultados.

Hubo varios feligreses con buenas ideas, diciendo que si involucramos a las 3,400 familias aquí presentes, no solo recaudaremos el dinero para las fases 1 y 2, sino que podremos recaudar dinero para las cuatro fases. ¿Nos está diciendo el Espíritu Santo que sí podemos hacerlo? Solo necesitamos permanecer centrados en Cristo y centrados en el ministerio. Involucremos a todos entonces, ¡involucrémonos!

Dejando atrás todo lo que no nos ayuda a ser Una Fe, Una Familia, Una Parroquia, y el lugar de encuentro con la plenitud de la verdad de Jesucristo y Su Iglesia y, avanzando para convertirnos en verdaderos testigos de unidad y caridad evangélica. Hay un lugar para todos en la parroquia y en esta Campaña, para cada grupo, ministerio y organización, para cada persona de buena voluntad.

Nuestro testimonio de unidad y trabajo en equipo hará de Santa Rosa de Lima una luz de Cristo para las generaciones venideras, en el poder del Espíritu Santo. Como el obispo Mark ora en cada Misa de confirmación, oremos "¡Ven Espíritu Santo, ven! ¡Ven Espiritu Santo Ven!”
